You run a "free publication"..... You are mates with a commercial printer....... You tell potential advertisers that your print run is 50 000, and is "audited" by Australia post...... So "joe the shaper" thinks "wow"!!! 50 000 copies of a 1/4 page ad at $600........ Joe buys in.....
But!!!!........ Sheepdog only get 25000 copies printed....... His printer mate invoices him for 50000..... Sheepdog submits the invoice to Aust post for 50000...... So that checks out....
Sheepy's printer mate makes fuck all profit on the invoice, and wins via the taxman, plus sheepy chucks printer guy a little cash in hand bonus...... Sheepy can get higher advertising rates for 50000 copies instead of 25000 copies..... Doubles his money.....
Sheepy and the printer cash in....... Joe the shaper wonders why he only gets a few calls from 50 000 copies.... ( those calls were from me and me mates..... FAKE!!!!!)
Cha ching...... Joe may not advertise again...... But every month there are new business's opening..... More wingnuts to grift..........

I heard the painters and dockers used to hit up companies wishing to have their stock unloaded off ships with a demand for advertising in the union directory - $5000 a page or there may be unforeseen delays in unloading goods.
Get a few dozen advertisers lined up and print just enough copies to supply one to every advertiser and one for the reception desk at the union office.
Quite a healthy profit margin.

Sheepio, lovely word "Grift", had to look that one up.

I reckon the health system, you go to a doctor she/he sends you to specialist, the specialists sends you to get MRI scans or similar that are non-refundable through medicare, go back to the specialist, he says you're all good, then back to the doctor for a fit for work certificate.
Doctor $75, Specialist $200, MRI $300, back to Specialist $200, back to Doctor $75, then you find out your all good and you can go back to work in 2 weeks, classic. Gotta love that....?
Just my little 2 cents worth in the last 2 weeks.
Oh yeah dealers are the worst, Any Dealer....?car, insurance, drugs, chemist, solar, electricity, nuclear, wax, surfboards...? Would Huey our wave god be classified as a dealer, because sometimes he really gets up a few noses on SN :)

Redgum had a song about scams called'Caught in the act'.
It included a verse about the classic insurance scam.....

Insure your goods with the AMP
Get your house ransacked
Split the cheque and throw a party
When your stuff comes back

It's a form of reprisal, a song of survival
Keep your morals intact
Don't be naive, you're stealing from thieves
It's a matter of tact
Just don't let yourself get caught in the act

How about 100% fit and healthy joe blow claiming a disability pension in the old days of social security..
visit doc complain of painfull back.... pain medication offered....over the next few months re visit the doc numerous times grizzling and moaning constant pain cant do this cant do that, cant sleep, cant root
doc orders xrays and other tests

well joe blow has a mate with a legit lower back problem.....and for a small cash fee happily goes for xrays on behalf of joe blow posing as joe blow using joe blows medicare card ....
Xrays taken and joe blows back shows major problems

back to see the doc with the proof, doc shocked to see the lower back damage of joe blow and ups his pain medication and suggest he could no longer work fulltime and should file for disability pension...which he does
pension was granted...... and joe blow is retired for life ...fit as a fiddle
this is a very vague recollection of a story I read of some ethnic blokes in Melbourne scamming the system.
why do we not have our pictures or other security on our medicare cards ?

I think joe blows mate Mario got enough cash for a new donk in his Valiant.

Sheepdog a "reputable" publisher tried your scam on me once. Claimed to have printed 5000 copies when they actually printed 10,000. I caught them because I had a mate in the business who told me it just wasn't viable to print 5000. But the biggest scam of all time?
THE FAMILY TRUST!
Tax is only for the (relatively) poor!

Aint "my" scam mate :).... I worked in advertising back in the 90s for a certain publication..... Even as salesman, we were told "50 000"....... But when I found out the truth, I felt "dirty"...... My monthly sales dropped.... I couldn't sell the spiel anymore knowing the truth....... I walked away from the advertising game, jaded..... cynical.... I now look at marketing/advertising in a totally differetn way than joe bloggs does...
But one thing I can say to all those out there in small business..... if you choose to include magazine advertising in your promotion, make sure you specify that you want your ad positioned on a right hand outer page...... Get it in writing before it goes to press..... Lots of people "flick" through magazines.... The right hand outer page is the most visible........
Also, before advertising, ask them to supply a link to their website/publisher, or get them to post their most recent mag.......

Blindboy, never knew exactly what a family trust involved so your post prompted me to check into it. What a golden rort that is. You would want to be able to have full faith in the various beneficiaries though.

Where do I begin?

Worked in the superannuation industry for awhile and one of my jobs was check the employment status of people in receipt of disability pensions. I got to see their personal, company and trust taxation returns so I now speak with authority on this topic.

It was very common for people to hide behind company and family trust structures so that they could work (undetected) and claim the full disability pension. I have to stress the people I looked at were not in receipt of Centrelink disability pensions, I'm talking about big pension amounts here $40-$60k per year.

When the heat got too much I saw people divest themselves of companies, businesses and directorships of family trusts just so they could continue to get their disability pension. The lengths some people go to to rort the system was mind blowing.

From my direct knowledge family trusts when liked to a family owned business is the biggest tax dodge/scam ever. I saw time and time again company profits being directed into a family trust and then distributed to family member, including children, for fictitious undertaken work. Here's the rub, the kids income can then be used to allow them to claim youth allowance while in the senior years of high school and university. A lie on a lie on a lie. Meanwhile honest punters have to pinch and save to make ends meet putting their kids through high school and uni. What do you have to say about that nick3? Got a family trust?

The last thing I'll say about family trusts .... go count the number of current federal government (conservative) politicians who got have one. You will need less than one hand to do so; and they attack what Howard used to call the battlers. They are all beyond redemption.

Hmm....generally spraying dry material was not so much to add weight but to stop it from crumbling to pieces and turning into powder , spraying a mist over it would make fuck all difference to the weight anyway.

I know a few good scams, but if I tell it could affect my income. ;)
