"Ok, people, that’s it. It's a bombshell of a day in America. And if Trump isn’t impeached after this, along with complicit members of the @GOP who have known this and tried to discredit Fusion and Steele and this dossier, there is no hope for our democracy. Period."

I suspect this is only the start Ben. Steele just tugged on a loose thread. Now the whole woollen cod piece is starting to unravel. The only question is how far it will go. The corruption doesn't end with Trump and co. The great unravelling could shake the US in unpredictable ways. Interesting times? More likely terrifying.

What does grab my attention is the oft cited idea of a continuous suburb stretching from the Sunny coast to Geelong ( including its satellite suburb of Bell's beach estate ) in the not too distant future.

A grim reality ?

I believe so after witnessing the developments at Moonee beach and surrounds and after seeing what's going on on the Brisbane to Tweed stretch . A stretch that is home to the WORST stretch of road building fuck up currently on display in Australia , in my opinion.

After those much publicised S.A blackouts, Prime Minister Turnbull said this to Australians, in an attempt to blame wind power. These were his exact words stated on 9/2/ 2017 ;

"And the answer was because of this heavy reliance on wind power, recognising that - as you know, you live in South Australia Leon – that when you get these heatwaves in South Australia, the wind drops and that’s one of the reasons why it is so hot. "

The wind drops during these S.A heatwaves, Mal?..... Ok..... So the "fresh" dry hot norwester today is just a figment of my imagination?
There are a gutload of wind turbines around Millicent... Closest Observation is Mt gambier. The hottest time was 2.32pm, with 41.4' recorded.. At that time, the norwester was averaging 19k, with gusts to 28k.
Snowtown (the other big wind farm region) had an average of 15K and gusts to 27K at it's hottest time of day.

Basically, what I'm saying?
Mal....... ya full of hot air....

Hey Sheepio ,
Long time no speak .

Yeah mate the National Grid is complex beast . There is a app for your phone called Pocket NEM , that can give you insight to the Energy flows on the East Coast Grid which includes SA , TAS, VIC, NSW and QLD . I watch it a fair bit for my work and to see the truth .
Alot of the issues on the grid is the lack of inestment in it for the last twenty years . The wholesale prices were extreme to say the least today . I have screen shots on my phone that would blow you away . Anyway any issues on the grid today were by Loy Yang B tripping or shutting off around 4pm . 500MW fell off the grid . The Bass Link and SA - Vic interconnector were glowing ........

Yep, Josh " Coal " Frydenburg , got a HUGE slap down on Twitter by some informed punters . With the truth and information out there like this , even the bloke on the street can know more about our Grid than the Energy minister .
The other thing that could be going on which is much more sinister , is some of these huge Gentailers still Generate over 70% of the East coast grid , in what the ACCC should be taking a long hard look at . Energy Australia , Origin , Pacific Hydro and a few others have strong ties to Asia . Now not suggesting that this is a aimed target of trying to sabotage the grid for their investment gains . ( Drive down the price of more aging infrasture ) by showing that it's perhaps less reliable than previously thought .
NO i would suggest more gaming the system , as one system falls over the hole market goes into a Price bidding rocket ride . There are obviously contracted rates that these Gentailers supply , but there are also peaker plants and Frequency Control & Ancillary Services markets that can benefit greatly from such events . And since alot of these systems of infrastructure are owned by many of the same broadening daily mega companies then what they miss on the swings they more than triple on the merry go rounds .
Failing all this , it could be just lack of proper maintenance to these long ago privatised utility investments . Either way which is more true or combination there of , it deserves investigation. Obviously the COALition isn't going to trigger this .

Labor must be stoked with the TPP.

Now theyll be able to massage the ethnic voting bloc of underpaid and compliant Mexican workers that they're hoping to create.

Even the unions that were the foundation of the Labor party know the TPP is a shitty idea. But there is potential votes in it if labor can just reinforce and harness the concept that the Mexican arrivals that will further reduce the living standards of current Australians have entitlements that must be respected and satisfied and that Labor is the mob to do it.

Too bad that it's at the expense of the Australian working class.

The Party must prevail at all costs. That's what's important.

Blowin some of us calculate cost/benefit globally, others nationally. Historically nationalism has been a really bad idea since it was the root cause of both world wars in the 20th century. Globalism has problems and has been much abused by multinational corporations. Still lifting a billion or so people out of poverty in the space of a few decades is a pretty impressive achievement. Remember, think global, act local.

Blowin's picture
Blowin's picture
Blowin Wednesday, 24 Jan 2018 at 11:14am

Nationalism is a failure due to the world wars ?

Id say the problem is fascism not nationalism.

You think Norway , Switzerland etc are failures ?

Australia's education , health and welfare systems were a result of nationalism and they've seen us enjoy a standard of living probably unprecedented in world history.

China's massive rise and the lifting of large swathes of its population out of poverty - that's nationalism , not globalism. It was orchestrated by a focused government effort.

Have a look at this when you have a spare hour. It tells the whole story of inequality.

Nothing evil here , folks.

A community has found enough commonality to declare its unity as an official stance. That's what nationalism is. Nothing inherently untoward about it whatsoever.

It allows people to say this is us and we are going to live by a standard that we accept . A standard that encompasses our morality and outlook as comprehensively as we can . It's a way of declaring that we are more united than we are divided and that we'll look after each other if possible.

Of course the reality doesn't always live up to the ambition, but that's life and we've done well so far considering the variety of people that claim Australia as home.

That nationalism.

When business seeks to undermine the living standards that we as a nation have strived for decades to attain by flooding the labour market then we have every right to say fuck you and your rent seeking.

The TPP is nothing but a clandestine power grab by business to ring an ever growing share of profits from our economy.

Off course people smugglers would have been lapping up this NZ news and pushing it as a selling point to get refugees back on boats, they will say or do anything to get back in business and make what is for them amazing money (be it Indonesian people smugglers or Sri Lankan).

People smugglers would have shown refugees, look NZ pm is pro refugees no problem if we can get there you are welcome, but off course it's much much further than Australia so the smugglers would be saying but you are going to have to pay such and such a price, who knows could be ten times as much as price to Australia, as they would be saying the cost to get there is so expensive in fuel and time, and we (people smugglers ) also need to return home also costly.

Off course in reality there is no intention from the people smugglers to really try to get to NZ, they would actually be hoping to get caught by Australian authorities.

Ideally hoping authorities take the refugees to Manus or Nauru so it's seen by those refugees still in Indonesia or Srilanka as a success which is good for future selling. (success equals more bums on boats equals more $$$)

But if turned back that's no real problem for people smugglers, obviously people smugglers are not going to be giving any refunds, there is not going to be any, oh yeah sorry we didn't get to NZ heres 70% of what you spent back...um no sorry, not going to happen, there would be all kinds of excuses.

This would have been a total gift to people smugglers, how many people they could convince to do the trip, well thats another thing, who knows.

Very recently I’ve shared the lineup in a couple of instances with a few of the famous girl surfers of recent times.

One of them a HARD charger with a ginger haired ripper of a boyfriend.

The other a couple of sisters that are working that shtick as hard as they possibly can. Just myself , themselves and a couple of friends - one was maybe a brother - and they were towing in to the small beachies and surfing pretty well.

Their milkshakes DO bring the boys to the yard . They’re banking on it. Literally.

Each to their own, Sheepy.

Just cause it’s not your dream , doesn’t mean it’s not theirs. They kind of reminded me of the Kardashians actually......maybe, sorta, not really.

Anyway , they’re girls and they’re doing what they want to do in this life.

Fancy if the surf club elders had gotten together and determined what was acceptable for your surfing life in the 70 ‘s , BB.

How would you feel ?

Strange thing is , I’m sure you’re all SO aware of mansplaining. But you still don’t get the premise of allowing people to determine and fight for their own agency.

The struggle is where you get the confidence and the power .

Have you learnt nothing ?

And the funny thing is that you and Sheepy both consider yourselves a pair of old punks but you still fail to recognise when a new generation - gender - has already kicked down the door and they now surf bigger , harder and better than yourselves and they neither need or want your paternalistic hand on their shoulder.
