Hey guys just after some Mentawais boat trip recommendations from anyone who's been up there lately. Looking for a trip next year. Have been on the Pelagic in the past just a few of the boys are looking for a cheaper option. Cheers

how busy is it getting over there these days? I'm planning a trip for July and would appreciate some insight. also is It pretty chilled if I travel by myself, it has been suggested to not explore indo alone?

July is busy all over indo but as far as going alone its the best way imo. you meet more people especially locals. Therefore learning the language better rather than just talking english all the time with friends.
July pumps though so if you're on the right boat or camp with good guides you might score some secrets or something.

Don't worry Redman ,going alone is the only way to fly,it's all I've ever done, although having no mates might have something to do with that ha ha.But seriously it works for me and patience is definitely a virtue.Cheers.

He who travels fastest travels alone.

No group decisions. Up stumps on a whim

And like others have said, it's the best way to meet the locals.

I agree although a lid, Phil is a good guy, mellow and respectful and friendly unlikely a lot of other operators and surf guides that are pretty much surfer/bogans/piss heads, the shag as many dirty hookers as they can when back in Padang or in KL or Singapore..

The Indonesian Captain Oscar is also a good guy, also mellow and friendly and always happy, actually did a few trips surf guiding with him with now gone Laut India/Explorer
