samoa forecast

Hi guys, been watching the Samoa forecast for about 3 months now and am trying to decode it, not necessarily spot specific, just to see if the region will be getting any swell at all when i head over.

all my observations have been taken from swellnet samoa forecast section. Wind: generally blasting out of the eastern quadrant at the moment anywhere from 15-25knots, but it has it consistently blowing all night. I am guessing its like the mentawai wind forecast which is generally nowhere near the mark? South pacific trades generally glass in morning then blast up in the arvo as a general rule?

Swell: The general trend seems to be either mid period trade swell from the east along with blasting easterly winds, and small/ish long period S/SW swells. Now i know that absolute south swell magnets along my neck of the woods, .4-1M of nice long period swell (16+ seconds) can often translate into perfect 3-4 foot waves, so if anything i should just be watching the period and ignoring everything else.

Anyone disagree with any of that?

I did use that monster of a swell that hit fiji (ramon swell?) as a reference point, it had samoa getting about 2ish meters of long period swell and i think the generic forecast page here on swellnet had it 4-6ft the whole time. Footage out of some samoan spots were maybe twice that size so i'm only really going off the specific swells now in the forecast section.

specifically for the dates im going there is half to a meter of long period south/SW swells so i'm not worried illl get skunked, just interested to hear from someone who has been there.

cheers.

Hi Geoffrey, how was the trip? I had similar questions and observations. I'm heading to samoa in 10 days with my bros. Was your interpretation of the forecast accurate?
