I have booked at Kandooma with SHMBO at the end of April next year and wanted to see if anyone else can report on it. I understand that I am going to be relieved of a large amount of cash staying there, and that the surf will not be epic at that time of year, but has anyone got any comments on the accommodation and resort itself. Anyone who has stayed around April/May Id be interested in the surf conditions as well.
Just had a look at the resort on World Surfari site...christ its Flash.....you set the grade now swmbo will never settle for less
Relieved of 10k plus for sure ...
Why don't you sling the cash my way and we'll go on a knees up that you'll never forget.
No matter how hard you try.
We could go to South East Asia on a whirlwind 70 's themed adventure.
Resplendent in matching safari suits , we'll laze around under slowly rotating ceiling fans between surfs as dusky skinned servants attend to our every beck and call.
I can talk incessantly about the virgin waves that may lie around the next headland in a captagon fuelled monologue and you can lecherously eye off the help as you attempt to ignore me.
The nights will descend into a drug addled fury and you'll wake naked and lost , feverishly sweating out the last of the shrooms . Holding onto the false hope that it was all a nightmare and wishing with all your might that you'd never met me .
Are you in ?
You'll be glad to wake up and find yourself in heaven, knowing that the more you spend the better it gets
I have stayed there twice at that time of year and the surf has been fantastic. You will wake up in the morning and at worst, you will be a two minute walk from the break and it will be offshore and probably empty. Both times that i have arrived to overhead waves which generally last a couple of days and then it drops to waist high. Both times that i have stayed, it didn't drop to less than that and offshore every day. With a fabulous left hander on the island next door (Foxeys) and two other breaks within a half hour boat trip, there is generally plenty of surf. If you are travelling with your family, you can wake up by 6, have a two hour surf and spend the rest of the morning or the day with your family.
The accommodation is beautiful and close to the break or the swimming lagoon, and there is a fantastic pool on the other side of the island near the restaurants where you can have a huge free breakfast till 11, skip lunch and then dinner which is fairly expensive. I travel on my own so i live in the surf or the room and it is indeed paradise. Free WIFI in all rooms and plenty of TV, it is expensive, but for an old fella that wants some comfort, it is the spot and as soon as i can afford it, i will be back.
I just checked out the place, when you guys say expensive i was thinking $500+ per night
$350-$400 isn't too bad considering it looks like a proper resort.
$300-$350 is coming almost standard..now when i think expensive I'm thinking $500+ a night.
All that said I'm a tight arse $50 pppn a night is expensive for me.
I was really born in the wrong era, would have loved to visit and explore the Maldives before tourism.
Ada gula, ada semut!
You must book the accom and surfer package- if not you cannot surf the islands right ...and that pricing only includes breakfast i think
Thanks for the input. Captain, that is pretty much what I had hoped for and I was expecting it to be on the smaller side so if I can get head high Id be happy.
Blowin, that reminds me of a trip in my youth which I would probably not be keen to repeat.
I was there in May 3 years ago(mid to late May from recollection) On day 2 you will forget the 10K you dropped. Wake up, surf a perfect barreling runner, then full buffet breakfast. As soon as wifey opens her book you'll be out there again as its only 3 minutes from the pool. Then after lunch you can have a quick paddle whilst she's getting a $70 massage and be just in time for sundowners on the rooftop bar. After the trip I understood why you pay more... It was not designed to squeeze maximum amount of people on the space(like some fijian resorts where you queue for lunch and the pool sundecks are packed at 7am) , the water is clear blue and colorful with sea-life. The sand is the softest and whitest I've ever seen and the service exceptional. For a couples trip this is the best place I've been. Enjoy
Thanks Doublems, that pretty much what I was expecting/hoping for. Even better one of my best mates told me on the weekend that he and and his wife are coming as well. All i have to do now is wait until April !
Pulled the pin on a honeymoon at Kandoooma after seeing the food and drink prices, terrifying. Going to Sri Lanka instead.
Sat next to a guy on the plane who spent a couple weeks there and rated it highly when I was heading home from Thulusdhoo in May. Cokes was 2ft and had a howling sideshore for almost a week straight but he said Kandooma was fun and clean. Must have been a swell direction thing
I must admit the food and drinks prices are scary. I estimate $100 - $130 a day per person. Does anyone know if there is a rule that says you cannot take alcohol onto the island?
you can't take alcohol into the country let alone the island - or so it was last time i went a few years ago. Actual bag search at the airport....
Let's party like it's .....prohibition.
Yep still banned. Only place you can buy is on resort islands
