Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

Helluva vid, Snuffy, helluva film! Or rather, helluva performance from Mr. Lydon.

Actually, an interesting topic...memorable film performances from music types?

The Hollywood cognoscenti didn't think much of it. Lydon's inability to get work after that film is the lyrical basis for 'Burn Hollywood, Burn' on Leftism. Most people think it's a generic anti-establishment rant but it ain't, it's all about John.

Tom Waits in Down By Law has gotta rate as a memorable performance.
Meatloaf in Fight Club - definitely.
Art Garfunkel in Catch 22 - maybe?

Havent seen Ned Kelly or The Man Who Fell to Earth so cant rate Mick and Dave.

I can think of plenty of cameos by musos, but they're not the same, right?

Just saw Jack White in Cold Mountain last night.

If the role he auditioned for was titled as - "modern musician making a ham fisted cameo in a civil war saga." .....then he nailed it.

At least he was better than Renee Zellweger .

Who was better than Nicole Kidman.

The mountain was very credible as The Cold Mountain, though. Very brooding and menacing yet strangely alluring.

Haven't seen it in much else since.

Fark. Where do you start? "Memorable" is a wide remit!

Jagger in Ned Kelly is memorably shite. Jagger in the film Performance though is a different kettle of lime-scale. Nic Roeg also directed Bowie in The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Punk icons?

Iggy in Scorsese's The Colour Of Money. As well as in Jarmusch's Coffee And Cigarettes & Dead Man (Gibby Haynes from the Butthole Surfers is in that one as well).

Nick Cave in Ghosts of the Civil Dead & Johnny Suede.

Rollins in The Chase, Heat, and David Lynch's Lost Highway.

Jello Biafra in Terminal City Ricochet, and with Tim Robbins & John Cusack in Tapeheads.

Ah fuggit, there's too many. From all genres.

I know it ain't a 'film' but check this. David Yow from Scratch Acid/Jesus Lizard & T.S.O.L.’s Jack Grisham, in this clip from Keith Morris' band OFF! (actually Keith was in Repo Man & Sid and Nancy)

Who is the best actor out of all these music types mentioned? Subjective, I know, but...

What about Kris Kristofferson? Ice T? Huey Lewis (he was in Short Cuts too BTW)? Frank Sinatra? Dean Martin? Ringo Starr?

Doris Day? Aretha Franklin? Diana Ross? Madonna? Lydia Lunch?

I liked Roger in an old TV show Buddy. McVicar is defintely a worthy watch.

Incredible band and provocateur nonpareil but I'd disgaree all their best songs are on that album. Kerosene, Stinking Drunk, Cables, Grinder, rate among their best.

I've got an interview with Albini in Aussie B Side magazine where he talk about the recording of Songs About Fucking, explains all their equimpent and sounds, the topics they write about (which is a hoot), then speaks dispassionately about why they need to split up. No-one quite like him.

Do you mean funny ha-ha, or, well, y'know..?

That Underground Surf was a queer rooster. Tiniest photos ever. A bit all over the shop. And the ed seemed like a private school punk. Heart in the right place, but I dunno, a bit soft?

And then there was the old Insane Hombre ranting and raving. Much like his band. Having a go, "keeping it real", but that was about the long and tall of it.

Anyway, I remember their freebie video was highly watchable. Might have been their high-water mark.
