Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

Cheers TGF, far from that kind of stuff, what a bunch of Numpties.
I don't get into Techno, minimal Tech is nice but Techno drags Numpties like that around to parties that are held on the street....?
Not my style at all.

Yeah Fraser-Gordon classic stuff.

I havent been to a bush doof for 3-4 years, so decided to go to this one, which was 3 hrs from home in an awesome setting SW of Casino, oohhh yeah it is Yowie country back there too.
A great 3 days, nice vibe of people, great mix of artists that played at various times which was appropiate to the music they played at that time of the day. Awesome fat punchy sound system.

Listening to progressive psy in the bush with people of like minds around you, make you realise how nice it is to escape from the bubble we live in from day to day.
Its all a journey out there and a great one at that :)
No rules in the bush, do what you want and have fun.

One of my favourite Indonesian bands, there kind of Indonesians version of Regurgtator, Tism or even Ween.

BTW. If you don't know Dangdut is a style of music very popular in Indonesia especially among village people, that has that kinda eastern sound, normally sung by creepy looking Indonesian guys or sexy Indonesian chicks.

Yeah its weird on one hand dangdut music itself is really popular among everyday Indonesians from young people to old but mostly village people, then on the other hand it also has a real sleazy seedy scene and live they often have women scantly clad dancing pretty raunchy for Indonesia.

Although many of the lyrics are also real naughty, mostly innuendo stuff.

I heard that song on RRR today, amazing to see how he does it, not normally my style of music, but appreciate it more seeing it played on guitar, cool how you can do that sample/record thing with those big delay pedals.

Interesting Indo. I haven't really listened to it much in recent years. I had some cassettes I used to play!

Anyway I will be playing at an open mic in Newtown tomorrow night. Kelly's On King, sometime between 8 and 11 . Not sure what goes on or how many songs I'll get to play but I haven't performed for a while so I thought I had better get back into it.

I grew up during the best era for gigs. Modern gigs just don't cut it..... Had my share....And what young people want old buggers like you and me festering around their scene? The old "creepy crawlys" used to shit me when I was young ;P

Last weekend I was at the local District club listening to a mate's mate playing. Great arvo. Crowd of all shapes, sizes, and ages. With nary a mobile device in sight under any circumstance. The boys even did Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant in its entirety! Now that's quite an achievement. Oh yeah, cheapest beer in town too! (But that's not sayin' that much over here).

Shats, used to hang at peregian originals heaps up till 2009... But I didn't really consider that a "gig", more of a party with friends lol... I ended up just jamming with mates in Coolum in our home recording setups, which was way more fun than joining the swill..... Might head up this winter and put some more shit down with me best mate, Russ, who btw is a freekn shit hot percussionist.. I aint fuckn around... Shit hot... Done some real big gigs in his time.... Anyone in the Coolum area can still catch him jamming with Carl Lynch..

BTW, Blind boy, if you are out there - thanks for getting me to pull my finger out and put some old lo fi demos on soundcloud... Got some pretty good feedback, heaps of likes and followers, and quite a few reposts...
Thanks man... If anyone ever runs with run one my tracks, I won't forget ya' ;)

SD: ah good mate, was pretty close to skipping dover actually!, just looked a bit too flukey and would definitely need new rubber. Tempted to catch it on E coast Vicco too, the cars lining the surf coast highway are repugnant!

I saw Paul Kelly and the Merri Soul Sessions at Fremantle last night. It is not the kind of show I would usually go to but I have to say it was good. Great band, great collection of singers and very few flat spots. I used to see him with the Coloured Girls way back when and just lost interest along the way. This though, is really worth a look if it passes your way.

Big Black, Rapeman, Shellac...all Albini, all good. And don't get started on all the bands he's recorded. Funny, from starting off in a band without a drummer, he's the best recorder of drums going round.

Some epic tunes there... was fortunate to see Fugazi at the Wellington Student Union in '93, the live recording has recently been released by Dischord Records as part of the Fugazi Live series, it was an unforgettable gig with the stage even breaking in half during their performance, that Albini and also Pixies era really set the course for so many bands to follow. Fuck there were some great gigs back then..!! NZ had the whole Flying Nun records thing happening and some crazy good tunes were coming of of Dunedin especially. Chris Knox was a big influence on me

Heres the Fugazi live in Wellies link http://www.dischord.com/fugazi_live_series/wellington-new-zealand-121093

Yeah, how good are those Fugazi gigs being available? Same tour, they played at the Dom Polski Centre in Adelaide. A mate of ours got up on stage and had a weird yarn with Ian when their power went out. He might've help 'em fix it? Ah, the vagaries of memory. This 'highlight' isn't featured, alas....though there may be a cryptic comment alluding to it: "Do we love the people in the audience or are we just fond of them?"

http://www.dischord.com/fugazi_live_series/adelaide-australia-111193#sth...

Funny, I was gonna add an example from Albini's original recording of the demos that would later become Fugazi's IN ON THE KILL TAKER previously.

Flying Nun stuff was great. So influential in a lot of ways. Especially showing how small regional scenes can thrive, survive and turn out some great original shit that lights up the wider world. Like Greasy Pop! Like Sub Pop!!!

Oh yeah, these guys are touring. Go!

Too true, though I had a bit of a slip down the rabbit hole recently, found myself awake at 1:30am listening to The Bats and The Chills and found it hadn't aged too well. Still, great music at the time.

Steve Albini for King. Anyone else who thinks Albini should ascend the throne might get a kick out of his '87 tour diary. Fucken great reading: http://www.petdance.com/actionpark/bigblack/tourdiary/

Scroll down for the Australian leg. "We went to a surplus store -- which is called a disposal store here (it's really great to see all these big dumb Aussies walking into a door marked "DISPOSAL")"

From Albini's Adelaide entry (Big Black played in Adelaide??): "In the front bar was Doris Dazed, an all-lesbian country outfit. Their piano player had been taking hormones and has an impressive Burl Ives-like beard. They were competent as hell, too, but that kind of music really needs a bearded lady to make it interesting. The guitar player had a really great man-hating grimace all the time, so I whistled and stared at her ass a lot. We fucked later."

Good shit Stunet! The Big Black last tour diary is ascerbic Albini in all his glory.

Though I think you'll find that Big Black played with King Snake Roost at Adelaide Uni. The gig mentioning Doris Dazed and support band Idiot Pop (the "post-homo-Iggy tribute band") was in dear ol' Sydney town (where else?).

Adelaide's one & only King Snake Roost with the one & only Charles Tolnay! Also of Grong Grong infamy with his brother. Funny connection. Saw Grong Grong in Melbourne last year playing with Jello Biafra & the Guantanamo School of Medicine. One of Charlie Tolnay's other projects was TUMOR CIRCUS...with Jello Biafra! Goddamn, the degrees of Adelaide separation!

Oh yeah, that Big Black gig is up there in 'the gigs I shoulda/coulda/woulda gone to' list (missed for whatever reasons). Top three at least...with The Cramps and Lonnie Donegan(!). Could be a Sheepster style thread in that.

Devil's Avs sounded a bit like old Adelaide band THE PLAGUE to my ears, SD. Noice.

Was hunting down some Lobby Loyde stuff on the 'net and ended up reading about bands he'd produced, X, Rose Tatt, and....the Sunnyboys. Put the self-titled album on, and damn it's aged well. Hadn't listened to it in twenty years but was blown away, even by the slower songs which I'd never cared for when younger.

Hard to believe Oxley wrote all those songs and composed most of the music while still a teenager. Confident without being arrogant, forthright without being aggressive, and possessing preternatural insight into relationships.

In a way they were like the Antipodean version of the Smiths, at least around the time of that first album. No-one had heard of them, and then, boom, they appear as a fully formed unit throwing down lyrics and melodies way above their years.
