It's called Globalisation , ladies and gentlemen and we all knew it would come to this.
Unless you chose to believe that Globalisation was limited to and defined by greater cultural diversity at the Westfield food court.
Some people around this great big blue ball are going to love it and their lives will be enhanced. Some won't be so lucky.
Change is coming and fast. Best you attempt to position yourself so as to maximise any possible benefits , as it's happening whether you like it or not.

One line leaps out from former High Court judge Dyson Heydon’s Royal Commission into Union Corruption:
… there is virtually no evidence of Julia Gillard’s good reputation and character beyond that which is to be inferred from her status as a former Prime Minister …
This was in response to a request from Gillard’s lawyers that the commission “give significant weight to Ms Gillard’s good character and reputation.” Heydon continued:
Hal Colbatch book on union treachery on the Australian troops in World War Two is well researched and documented, with first hand eye witness accounts by the soldiers that were there. Certain unions were in allegence with the Russian communist party and it was not until Russia became actively involved in the war that they stopped there sabotage on Australian troops.

The new improved whiter than white Abbott government is now "all for families".

We have had barnacles removed, apologies, promises of better communication, statements from Abbott that they really are listening, Hockey pleading with us that he is misunderstood and that the budget really was fair (what universe does he live in?) and now a cabinet reshuffle.

@sheep…I can understand your opinion of Morrison - he is hard. But as a son of refugee migrants, I suggest he had to stop the boats to save lives - simple as that. What is a problem is how migrants (and refugees) are handled when coming into AUS. A very successful process was how they managed large refugee entries after the second world war. That process should have somehow been kept - it worked. It is a concern that many don't give a damn about refugee lives. Whether the department is right in this case - can't say. Unfortunately the previous Labor Titanic sank with too many captains. Lets see what this captain does. He certainly has not seen the icebergs.

Point B - I don't know how many boats have turned up because of the Russian like secrecy.. I don't know how many boats have sank due to Morrison not commenting on "operational matters".... Bottomline is metadata will prove useless.. Unless of course you are chasing royalties... the music industry is shot.....
Our "security agencies" couldn't even keep track of Monis... These same people will now be tracking metadata for our safety? They couldn't even work out if Monis had a gun licence, and subsequently embarrassed Abbott with their incompetence...
More policy to appease the frightened braindead fucksticks that are my fellow Australians... It will prove useless, as real terrorist will use age old techniques, and also have super nerds using the dark web...
As far as "saving lives" at sea, I wouldn't know... Information blackout.... Heresay is not fact...

And as far as that Monis nutter goes, he didn't come here by boat.... he came here on a plane, business class..... The 9/11 terrorists got to America by plane, with false I.D..... This "terrorists come here by boat" invention of the coalition is just that... An invention..... If I was the head of an Islamic terrorist organisation, and I wanted some of my operatives to infiltrate Australia or the U.S, would I risk sending them on a 2 year ordeal, on rackety boats, with the risk of disease, cyclones, drowning, crocodiles?.... No.... I'd use my millions in Afghan heroin money to get the best false I.D, and send them through the front door, just like the 9/11 bombers......

I don't know enough about meta tag stuff to comment on that, but i agree with your last bit about terrorist, how things are currently it would be easier to come in the front door rather than the back, change the system and make it easier and faster and the back door would become an easier option.

I do think securing our borders is a very important thing though and I don't think the issue is a farce, both Liberal and Labor know its important (off course this will never happen) but even if the Greens got in they would even have to change there tune and deal with it, its just a real hard issue to deal with.

Sheepdog, How do you think it should be dealt with?

davetherave's picture
davetherave's picture
davetherave Tuesday, 23 Dec 2014 at 12:16pm

firstly admit its being created. Without terrorists, military budgets get cut. companies that make military weaponary, anti terrorism stuff dont make money, war-equals money
humanity not going top accept war now- nukes- too heavy, so we have terrorism-equals money-profits
control by fear ensures profit to those that control fear
easy to do, create or stir up ideological differences between races and especially religions- profits, profits, and maybe booty if we actually have to go and do something about it.
whether you agree or disagree with this post isnt the point, the fact remains that until humanity respect each other, stop ripping each other off and put co operation before competition, duality reigns supreme- good vs bad, rich vs poor, winners vs losers, etc etc etc, a dualistic consciousness ultimately evolves into a wholistic community/biosphere, or it destroys itself.

Couldnt agree more Mr. Indo D with the whole statement.

the coalition used "saving lives" as a proxy purpose for dealing with this issue, was anyone really convinced when liberals repeated this term time and time again as their main motivation? I think not.

"You maybe cynical about the boat process but the fact is it has saved lives - and thats not a secret. You can't have human rights if you don't have a life."

And there is tonybarber, the Labor man, towing the Liberal party line, again and again, give up the charade tony, you are only fooling yourself now.

Liberals used some very questionable tactics, but they have stop most of the boats in some way or another.

Also, Totally agree with sheepdog about terrorists coming by plane, the boat thing doesnt make sense, another Liberals' fabrication to stir up fear.

While I agree, Labor totally failed dealing with this issue, failed so miserably it was embarrassing to watch. Towards the end of their term they started to make some progress, which the Libs capitalised on big time, but policy after policy were inadequate, even counter productive from the beginning of their time in power.

This is a really miserable issue that there is no easy solution to. It really would be interesting to see the greens in power and actually have to deal with the issue because, sorry lefty humanitarian types, open borders just is not possible/practicle, and is becoming less so with globalisation, which is kind of ironic.

I think we all would like an open more fairer world but the reality is the world seems to be heading in the opposite direction, despite years of nice people trying to slow revert this . Advantage is too entrenched now with wealthy people from whatever country and their associated educations streaming them far ahead of less developed/advantaged sections of the world.

floyd's picture
floyd's picture
floyd Tuesday, 23 Dec 2014 at 1:19pm

The way to deal with the "we will decide who comes to this country and the manner in which they come" John Howard, I'll play the fear and race card to win the election is and has always been to establish a regional solution in partnership with our neighbours (Greens policy). This would include setting up refugee processing offshore in places like Malaysia but the Abbott opposition cynically blocked this move as it would have worked and the last thing Abbott wanted was a fixed problem, no votes in that.

So to all you correspondents who say the Libs fixed the boat problem I say yes they did but they made darn sure it wasn't fixed first under the last Labor government.

Howard's dog whistling the race card and Abbott's action in opposition and government are not the actions of a traditionally "LIBERAL" party government. Traditional Liberals are as pissed off as everyone else about what Howard/Abbott did. Its the politics of exclusion and fear (just pause and think about that for a minute) and that's why none of this has anything to do with saving lives and everything about saving votes.

Like I have said in an earlier post if you have lots of cash you can gain citizenship here by: investment, study or work (457) or just fly here as a tourist and don't fly home. Morrison and Abbott will never ever talk about these "illegal migrants" cos it loses votes and doesn't play to the lowest common denominator out in western Sydney and bigots like nick3/grocer/tonybarber.

On the subject of "boat people" and how best to address the issue, one must ask the base question.

Why do these people leave their country of origin?

The first answer to this, although not definative is US foreign policy and as davetherave points out, war is a racket.

As for SS Morrison now in charge of the "bludgers"...tell that to the newly laid off 12000 mining crew over the past few months, my brother and I included. I've certainly paid my fair share (I've been a "lifter" for 20yrs, so has my bro) and I have insurance to cover the short term but what happens to those who have no safety net, or those whose safety net runs out before new employment is found...call them bludgers of course. That'll make em feel real good about themselves...gotta give those leaners something to aspire to!

No amount of trying to smear the reputation of the author will change the shameful facts.

I have only two point in response to this outpouring of dribble.

On the first point, that's great except for the fact that Justice Heydon didn't write that in the report.

On the second point, Hal Colebatch made most of that shit up, including his first hand eye witness accounts. According to him, 12 planes were lost due to unionists stopping some radar repairs, unfortunately these planes were American planes, they had never been in Australia, there was no record of 12 planes going missing anywhere at any time and there was no problem with the radar.

There's no need to smear the author, he does that himself. His book is full of lies.

On the other hand, 'pig-iron' Bob Menzies did sell iron to Japan as WWII was hotting up, and Alexander Downer did sell wheat to Saddam Hussein while an international blockade was in force.

I'd say some have even died from Allied "friendly fire".... But who cares..... No votes in it... Collateral damage....
And this is more complicated than what jimmy the dave rave biscuit muncher had to say.... Biscuit boy, you didn't mention 2000 years of religious nutterdome.... You didn't mention the British empire drawing white man boundaries in the middle east as the spoils of ww1..... Or Israel... Absolute convolution....

Now Indo, refugees can be looked at as the dripping blood of war...... Drip drip drip...... The blood will continue to drip when the wound is not dealt with..... The wound is not being dealt with properly... And whilst we are taking part in the creating of more bloodshed, more wounds, expect more blood to drip..

Whilst we drop bombs on someone elses land, whether we are right or wrong in doing so, morally we should shelter those running, running from the bombs that we and the enemy are dropping.

your totally right Sheepdog,
but the numbers, its all about the numbers
you cant take everyone,
And not all refugees are from the middle east,
the rest probably come form fucked up former western colonies, so where and how do you draw the line?

The numbers aren't that great mate... An illusion - less than 1.5% of all immigrants come by boat..

BTW, here are the arrivals.. Note spike after 2008/09
http://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliam...

Here are bodycounts for Iraq and Afghanistan
https://www.iraqbodycount.org/database/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_casualties_in_the_War_in_Afghanistan_(2001%E2%80%93present)#Civilian_and_overall_casualties_.282009.29

Note death spike in Afghanistan 2008/09..... Note death spike in Iraq 2013.... Perfect correlation with spike in boats...... Top 5 boat people are - Iraq, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Iran and "stateless"..... perfect nationality correlation with rise in violence and death in Iraq, Afghanistan, Tamil Sri lanka....
