Anyone got any ideas on nice places to stay at the goldy for me, my wife, and two grommets? A few days in early October. Nothing too pricey, but would be nice to be reasonably close to the beach. Just something kinda mid range, not a total shit hole. Cheers

You've got plenty of time and early October shouldn't be a hard time to get accomm.
I would wait until a week or so beforehand and see what deals are available thru wotif etc.
If you are staying for a few days, I would go for a 2 bedroom unit in one of the glittering towers.
Ocean views, full kitchen, across the road from the beach, close to shops etc. You don't have to take your car out of the garage. You can often get a great place for around $100 per night.
Location, depends what you're family want. Surfers Paradise, lot's of shopping, it's horrible but some like it. Broadbeach is more mellow version of Surfers Paradise.
I only stay at the southern end. Coolangatta has a lot of unit towers. Ocean views, across the road from the beach, but still a bit of the old gold coast vibe. You can't go wrong. There might also be places in Rainbow Bay available, lovely, on the beach, Carool or Columbia.
But I would wait. If you don't like the deals online, often if you pick a building that looks good and ring them, you can get a better deal over the phone.

cheers wally, we have been looking at some deals, but the photos dont often tell the real story. Often the pictures make the place look awesome, then you read some comments/ feedback on the joints and the customers bag the place. I know bugger all about the different parts of the Goldy, so your description of the southern end sounds like me a bit more. we could just shoot down to Byron for the few days i suppose. cheers

Try around burleigh heads, its a great spot, great point break and also beachies if you dont like crowds. Easy drive to currumbin, snapper and surfers.
